UKAPE
United Kingdom Association of Professional Engineers
 About UKAPE

UKAPE is a democratic organisation run by its members for the benefit of its members, all of whom have the opportunity to participate fully in its activities. Our members agree to uphold our unique Code of Conduct, which safeguards the profession and the public interest.

The UK Association of Professional Engineers was formed in 1969 and is the association for engineers, technologists, managers and professional staff. Throughout its evolution, UKAPE has retained its own identity, an autonomous democratic structure, control over its activities, and political independence.

We fill a niche that no other organisation is able to do. For example, whilst chartered and incorporated engineers may be members of their professional institutions, such institutions are learned societies - they are constitutionally prevented from providing advice and representation for their members. UKAPE provides the support you need.

Whilst our immediate aim is to help our members in their day-to-day working lives, our long-term aim is also to improve the status of both the individual and the profession. To demonstrate our commitment to this objective, we have sponsored numerous engineering prizes, including:

  • Engineering Council Environment Awards
  • Heating and Ventilating Industry Training Awards
  • Student Engineering Awards

We also seek to influence the engineering profession and have members who particapate in governing the engineering profession and sit on councils of the engineering institutions. We lobby government on behalf of our members, and we are corporate members of the Associate Parliamentary Engineering Group.

The National Dimension - UKAPE has been a member of the Federation of Professional Associations (FPA) since 1979. It combines the strength of over a score of like-minded professional associations, representing managerial, professional and technical staff in many industries and organisations in both private and public sectors.

The International Dimension - UKAPE pursues its international objectives through membership of the Managerial and Professional Staffs Association (MPA), which is a federation of staff associations. MPA, through its European affiliations, is the principal organisation with a consultative role in Europe for managers and professionals.

Who Can Join? - UKAPE has membership in many different engineering disciplines and specialisations throughout all sectors of commerce, industry and government. We have members in many of the top engineering companies, a substantial self-employed sector and numerous members in small and medium size businesses and central and local government. If you are a student you will enjoy very favourable subscription rates and services while undertaking your engineering degree.
